Local SEO services for visibility on Google Maps

Local SEO services for trades and local service businesses. The aim is to be visible when someone nearby searches for the job you do, with a clear way for that person to call or request a quote.

Why local SEO matters for trades

When someone searches for a plumber, roofer, electrician or another local service, Google usually shows three things: ads, a map pack, and ordinary results underneath. The map pack is the block with the map, the star ratings and the call buttons. A lot of those searches never become a visit to a website. The person taps Call or Directions.

That is a different job from ranking a blog for a national phrase. Local SEO is about being a credible choice in a particular area, for a particular service. "Near me" and emergency searches are impatient. The listing, the reviews and the page they land on have to answer "do you cover me, and can you do this job?" straight away.

Ads can sit above all of that, and they are useful when you need enquiries before the organic work has had time. They stop the moment you stop paying. Local SEO is the slower asset. LeadForge Marketing is based in Stockton-on-Tees, and this is the work we do for UK trades and other local service businesses.

What local SEO includes

Every account is different, but the work usually covers the same ground:

  • Google Business Profile management: categories, services, service area, photos, posts, review replies and help with a suspended profile.
  • Pages for the services you actually sell, and for the areas you actually cover, each written so a customer can tell what you do.
  • On-page and technical fixes that stop the site getting in its own way: titles, headings, speed, and indexation of the pages that matter.
  • Citations and NAP clean-up, so the name, address and phone number agree across the directories that Google can see.
  • Reviews: asking real customers, and replying, without incentives that break Google's rules.
  • Local links where there is a genuine reason for another site to mention you.
  • Geo-grid rank tracking, so you can see the map pack from more than one pin in the town.
  • Monthly reporting on enquiries and what we are changing next.

How we do it

We start with an audit: the profile, the site, the competitors in the map pack, and where the calls are coming from today. Then we fix the foundations. A profile in the wrong category, or a site that never mentions the town, will waste whatever content we add later.

After that we build the pages and the profile content, work on reviews and citations, and report monthly. Many clients start to see movement within 60 to 90 days, but no one can guarantee Google rankings. A fix to a suspended or incomplete profile can show in the listing sooner. Competitive areas often take longer. No agency can guarantee rankings on Google, and we don't.

Google Business Profile management

Google Business Profile management is part of local SEO. For a lot of local searches, the profile is what people see first: the name, the categories, the reviews, the photos and the call button. Google My Business management is the older name for the same work. Google renamed the product, and business owners still search for both.

Ongoing management from LeadForge Marketing usually covers:

  • Primary and extra categories, chosen for the jobs you want, and a services list in plain language a customer would search for.
  • The service area, or the address, set to match whether people visit you or you visit them. The places you list are places you will actually travel to.
  • Photos of real work, not stock images that could belong to anyone.
  • Regular posts. Weekly is a sensible pace for most trades. Google does not require a post every day.
  • Review replies, and a reviews process that asks people you have done the job for, gives them the direct link, and does not offer money or gifts in exchange for a review.
  • Profile insights in the monthly reporting: calls, direction requests and website visits, where Google provides them.
  • Help with a suspended profile. We look for the usual causes, such as a name stuffed with search terms, an address that does not match the business, a duplicate listing, or content that breaks the guidelines. We tidy those parts and help you submit the reinstatement request with the evidence Google asks for. Google makes the final decision. We do not promise a reinstatement.

A tidy profile still depends on the site and the citations saying the same thing. That is why we treat the listing and the rest of the local SEO as one job.

What we can show

A geo grid plots where a business appears in Google across the local area. Red and orange pins are weaker positions. Green pins are stronger ones. This is the same before-and-after pair published on the homepage. It shows how that view can change from street to street. It is an example of the tracking, not a ranking we promise.

  • Weaker positions
  • Stronger positions
Before
Before geo grid: a 5 by 5 grid of coloured pins over local streets, mostly weaker positions with one stronger pin in the centre.
After
After geo grid of the same area: the same 5 by 5 grid with stronger pins across most of it and a weaker row along the bottom.

On the reviews page we publish 48 five-star Google reviews, word for word. Crewkerne Services wrote: "Simon got my GMB all sorted and also helped me with my SEO."

Those are the clients' own words. The full reviews are on that page and on Google.

Who this is for

Local service businesses that want more calls from nearby customers. Trades are the clearest fit: people searching for a specific job, in a specific place, often ready to book. The same approach applies to home services, automotive, health and wellness, professional services and other businesses that serve a local area. We have worked with hundreds of local service businesses across the UK, the USA and Canada.

If you cover a service area rather than a shop people walk into, say so. The pages and the profile should list the places you will actually travel to, and not a ring of towns you have never worked in.

What changes the cost

Every local market is different, so we price it on a short call. The cost moves with how competitive the map pack is, how many services you need pages for, the state of the profile, and whether the site needs rebuilding or only repairing. A one-person trade with a clear service area is a different job from a multi-trade firm across several towns. You get a clear recommendation on the call, with no obligation.

Local SEO, Google Ads and follow-up

The aim of the search work is to be found. It does not, on its own, book the job. Google Ads covers searches you are happy to pay for while the local SEO work is underway. The Google Business Profile is the listing those searches land on. The website or landing page is built to give that visit a way to call or request a quote. After the click or the call, the lead still has to be answered. The homepage describes that part of the system: an alert straight away, then follow-up.

If you want the wider picture first, start at the services hub. If you already know local SEO is the gap, call 01642 053779 or book a discovery call.

Questions we get asked

How long does local SEO take to work?

Google Ads can start bringing local enquiries within the first week. Local SEO takes longer. Many clients start to see movement within 60 to 90 days, but no one can guarantee Google rankings. We set expectations on the discovery call based on your area and the businesses already ranking there.

What's the difference between local SEO and Google Ads?

Local SEO is the work aimed at the map pack and at ordinary local results. You are not paying Google for each click. Google Ads puts you in front of people who are searching now, and you pay for the clicks. Many trades use ads while the SEO work is underway, then keep both if the numbers justify it.

Can you get me into the Google map pack?

We work on the things that influence the map pack: the Google Business Profile, reviews, how well the site matches the search, citations, and how close the searcher is. Distance and the businesses already visible nearby still matter. A geo grid shows where you appear, street by street. No agency can guarantee rankings on Google, and we don't.

Do I need a website for local SEO, or is a Google Business Profile enough?

A Google Business Profile is often where the call button sits, especially for a trade with strong reviews. A website gives you a place to explain each service, show the areas you cover, and collect enquiries you own. For most local SEO work we do both. The profile and the site should say the same things about who you are and where you work.

How do you measure local SEO results?

We look at calls, direction requests and website visits where that data is available, including profile insights, and at how the geo grid changes across the area you cover. Monthly reporting shows what is moving and what to adjust next. The aim is enquiries from nearby customers, not a ranking for its own sake.

Why was my Google Business Profile suspended, and can you fix it?

Google suspends profiles for reasons such as a business name stuffed with search terms, an address that does not match the real business, a duplicate listing, or content that breaks their guidelines. We help you work out which of those applies, tidy the profile, and submit the reinstatement request with the evidence Google asks for. Google makes the final decision. We do not promise a reinstatement.

How often should I post on my Google Business Profile?

Google does not demand a set number of posts. A steady rhythm keeps the profile from looking abandoned. Weekly is a sensible pace for most trades: a job you have finished, a service you want more of, or a straightforward update. We can write and publish those as part of Google Business Profile management. Posting every day is not required.

How much does local SEO cost per month?

Every local market is different, so we price it on a short call. It depends on the area, the trade, and how much work the profile and the site need. On that call we tell you what we would actually do, and what it would cost, with no obligation.

Do you work with service-area businesses that don't have a shop front?

Yes. Many of the trades we work with visit the customer. Google lets a service-area business set the areas it covers and hide the street address, as long as the profile follows Google's rules. If customers visit you, the address usually needs to be shown. We set that up to match how the business really works.
